Lactomel - 30 caps (expires: 2021/03/31)
In recent times, more and more scientific evidence has been emerging as to how healthy and balanced intestinal bacterial flora can condition the psychophysical health of the entire body. One of the most known, studied and used Lactobacilli is Lactobacillus reuteri, which is commonly already present in the intestinal mucosa from the first hours of life, being part of that important immunity transmitted from the mother to the newborn, including through the mother s milk. This probiotic lactobacillus is commonly used in the case of those troublesome gassy colics in children, typical in the first few months and especially for those fed with artificial milk, and it has excellent results. In adults, on the other hand, its concentration may decrease in situations of stress, drops in immune defences and prolonged use of antibiotics, and is particularly useful in cases of diarrhoea, gastroenteritis and irritable bowel syndrome, but can also improve atopic dermatitis and infections of the urogenital system. Lactobacillus reuteri acts by producing reuterin (a substance with an antimicrobial action), lactic and acetic acid which, by lowering the pH of the digestive tract, counteract the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
Lactobacillus reuteri is also indicated in cases of Salmonella infections, which can be contracted from foods considered at risk, such as raw meat and raw eggs, and is also indicated for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori. This lactobacillus has become still more interesting as it is the subject of growing and continuous research, which confirms that balanced and healthy intestinal flora also greatly helps improve cardiovascular health.
If we want to benefit from a healthy heart and good blood circulation, one of the first factors to keep in mind is the necessity of maintaining safe blood cholesterol levels, given that hypercholesterolaemia is one of the main risks to our cardiovascular health.
Among the many physiological situations in which they are involved and affect our health, probiotic bacteria are proving to be one of the foremost alternatives for controlling the level of blood cholesterol through certain particular mechanisms. Lactobacilli, like Lactobacillus reuteri, produce exopolysaccharides, which are fibres that can capture cholesterol and prevent its absorption, and they also produce bile salt hydrolase (BSH), an enzyme complex that reduces intestinal absorption of cholesterol from foods, which is then eliminated in faeces. In fact, like all fats, conjugated bile acids are required in order for cholesterol to be absorbed.
The intake of Lactobacillus reuteri therefore increases the excretion of cholesterol through faeces, breaking the chemical bonds of conjugated bile acids.
Additional related mechanisms are the subject of further research, but thanks to this additional action on cardiovascular health, the intake of Lactobacillus reuteri is notably emerging as being complementary to a balanced diet, combined with physical exercise, to help improve the health of our heart and circulatory system.
The proverb an apple a day keeps the doctor away is confirmed by science, as this common fruit is a real panacea, given the many elements it contains: water, protein, low fat, fibre, mineral salts like potassium, sulphur, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamins (C, PP, B1, B2, B3, A) and various sugars. It is also an excellent source of polyphenols, flavonoids and antioxidants, which provide various healthy properties for the body, starting from the intestine, where it has positive effects both when suffering from constipation or diarrhoea, and in inflammatory states of irritable bowel syndrome, having a powerful soothing effect on the intestinal mucosa. Being rich in polyphenols, found mainly in the skin of the fruit and which provide its antioxidant action, apple extract is an important source of energy for our body and for carrying out everyday activities. Among the vitamins, the most important one present is certainly vitamin C. This represents a real support for the immune system, whose job is to respond to bacterial and viral infections and fight physical and mental stress, helping to reduce the ageing process of the body s cells and purge them of accumulated toxins. The apple s health benefits are also linked to the high content of pectin found in its extract: this insoluble fibre helps control the levels of bad LDL cholesterol and regularises the intestine in cases of both constipation and colitis, as well as having beneficial prebiotic functions for the intestinal microbiome. Regarding the balance of cholesterol levels correlated to the positive situation of the bacterial flora, it can be seen how the combination with Lactobacillus reuteri is synergistic. Strengthened by the most recent discoveries regarding the correlation between pro-/prebiotics and cardiovascular health, it emerges that their joint intervention acts at the cardiovascular level, a vascular protective action with a reduction in the number of atherosclerotic lesions in the arteries, acting positively on the balance of bad LDL cholesterol, improving the values of good HDL cholesterol.
Apple extract is also very rich in antioxidants and particularly in quercetin, a substance that protects brain cells and has an anti-inflammatory action on the intestine. Apple extract exerts a purifying action in terms of liver function. The malic acid found in apples helps promote correct digestion and restore the values of bile (a substance produced by the liver and involved in the digestive process) to normal levels. The intake of apple has been shown to help eliminate stones; this procedure is called a liver flush and is recommended for those who suffer from gallstones. The presence of polyphenols (and other nutrients) stimulates the activity of the pancreas, responsible for the production of insulin. This has the task of helping to convey and promote sugar absorption, which, with apple extract, occurs more easily. Furthermore, polyphenols and flavonoids also have the capacity to keep the heart in good health, which is why this extract is linked to Lactobacillus reuteri. The antioxidants present have the task of fighting free radicals, counteracting cellular ageing. In particular, the presence of vitamin C stimulates the formation of collagen, which is essential for keeping the skin young and elastic. Among the minerals present, potassium is essential for the protection and proper functioning of the heart; it also regulates muscle contraction and is involved in transforming proteins into energy for our body.
As for apple extract s purifying power, this is largely thanks to the presence of Florizina, a substance which gives it a real soothing effect and is a true intestinal scavenger , able to purify and detoxify the intestine, even helping to protect the liver.
